thinking about my "play" project and looked over Christo's river project. i believe ive seen this before, very cool idea. Floating down 2 rivers, one below and one above with the wind giving it current. the shaded sun would have cool lighting effects as well. Play is like trying to get yourself in that perfect moment, no matter what.

week 1 assignment

My reading in "IN the Making" focused on the audience of art. You have to think about your audience as much as you think about the actual piece you are creating. I think as artist we do this without even realizing it. All the decisions an artist make about design, size, lighting and even subject, relate to how his/her audience will receive it. Thomas Kinkade wanted to make everyone his audience and tried to reach them all by incorporating his art into everything from paintings to furniture, kitchenware, architecture and so on. Charles Ray seemed to not care who his audience was, he created to create, and knew there would be people out there who would either get his work or not understand it at all. Kinkade communicated to his audience through soothing, calming artwork that never stressed the audience but would attempt to relax them instead, Ray on the other hand wanted  his audience uncomfortable, he went for shock value, all while merely playing with art and peoples reactions. Kinkade did not set out to conquer all aspects of the art market. He simply played with his art and it started taking on a life of its own because "play" has no direction or limit. Charles Ray seemed to be all "play" and his playground was any object he could get his hands on, including his audiences minds. Reading over these artist makes me go back and think of all my works and who i was really making them for. When i think about it, I alwaqys feel "ants-y" until my target actually sees my work, 100 of others could pass by but i have intended audiences i've noticed.
